After studying at the College of the Christian Brothers and al-Maqasid College, he received his LL.B. from Saint Joseph University in Beirut and became a lawyer and then a judge

He was elected as a member of the Lebanese parliament for the first time in 1960. He served as a Beirut MP in seven parliamentary terms

1974

He first served as prime minister in Lebanon from October 1974 until May 15, 1975 when he resigned a few weeks after the outbreak of the Lebanese Civil War

1992

He served a second term as prime minister in May 1992 following the riots that brought down the government of Omar Karami. Rachid oversaw the first parliamentary elections after the civil war. The vote was then boycotted by the main Christian political parties in the country. His second term as prime minister lasted for five months, until he was replaced by Rafic Hariri

2014

Rachid died at June 26, 2014
